Laura is an Associate for Martin/Martin. She has specialized in project management, structural design and detailing, and construction administration for a variety of different facilities over the course of 26 plus years! Laura tells young girls, “Don’t let anyone rob you of your dreams. It’s your one precious life! Be curious, learn as much as you can about your interests, and keep opening new doors until you find a path you want to follow”. While Laura was the only woman engineer at her company 25 years ago, she never let that hinder her. Now there are many more women in STEM careers, and she recommends looking to find a female mentor in organizations like SWE (Society of Women Engineers) or STEMblazers.

Her favorite quote reads:

“The future belongs to those who believe in the beauty of their dreams” -Eleanor Roosevelt

Furthermore, Laura herself says that “every girl should find a mentor and visualize herself in a Science, Technology, Engineering, or Math career. This will greatly increase her confidence and help her start down the path. Getting started is half the battle!”. While pursuing STEM, especially as a woman, is a daunting task, Laura is one of many women who is an inspiration that not only is it possible, but also an incredible thing to do so.
